A Scare, a Heartbeat, and a Reminder of Love

January 29, 2025

Monday was scary.

I started showing signs of a potential miscarriage—bleeding and cramping. Josh and I immediately called our doctor, who got us in right away for an ultrasound.

Dr. Budinetz (we love her!) finished her appointment and came in quickly to talk us through everything. She explained what we should expect to see at this stage: a sac and a placenta. It’s still too early to see more than that.

The ultrasound confirmed what Josh had been gently reminding me of all along—everything is okay. The baby is fine, and so am I. He kept saying, “She’s tough like her mom,” and while I didn’t feel tough in that moment, it meant everything to hear him believe in me. It’s hard to describe the wave of emotions—fear, sadness, relief, gratitude—but Josh never wavered.

Monday reminded me of how grateful I am to have him by my side. He dropped everything to be there, showing up with love and calm reassurance when I needed it most. He’s my rock, my best friend, and my everything.

And here’s the best news of all: we have a heartbeat—possibly even two, right next to each other. We’ll know more at our next ultrasound next week. For now, I’ve been told to take it easy—no work, just light walking, and lots of rest. I’ll gladly follow those instructions to keep our little one (or ones!) safe.

It was an emotional day, but I feel incredibly thankful—for Josh, for our doctor, and for this precious little life we’re protecting together.
