A Reflection on the National Day of Prayer
May 1, 2025
Today, on the National Day of Prayer, I pause to give thanks and to remember that justice belongs to the Lord alone.
In this season of my life, and throughout this campaign, I have seen prayers answered in ways that remind me that every blessing we receive and every responsibility we are entrusted with are not achievements of our own making, but opportunities to lean more fully on God’s wisdom and strength.
He is the Righteous Judge, whose ways are higher than ours and whose judgments are true, even if we are not always able to understand them. Human strength and wisdom, though necessary in their place, are only a faint reflection of the perfect justice that God has established and that we should always strive for. Our task is not to replace His ways with our own, but to walk humbly before Him, seeking His guidance at every step.
As I reflect on the path before me, I am mindful that governing — whether as an advocate or a judge — is first and foremost a stewardship. It demands humility, a deep reverence for the law as it was given, and an unwavering commitment to uphold justice with compassion and integrity.
Today, I pray that we will be people who trust not in our own understanding but fear God, love mercy, and walk in His ways. And I pray for the strength to serve faithfully, knowing that ultimate justice rests in the hands of the One who reigns with righteousness and equity.
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.”
— Micah 6:8
Humbly Yours,
