Mail-in Absentee Ballot Deadlines for May 20th Primary Election

April 18, 2025

While mail-in ballots remain a controversial topic, and I’m honored to be endorsed by PA State Rep. Dave Zimmerman (one of only two in the House that voted against Act 77) and Bradford Co Commissioner Doug McLinko (who sued over the constitutionality of Act 77), we have to accept for this upcoming primary, they will be utilized. Thus, it is imperative that we ensure that those who elect to use mail-in ballots in the Republican Primary have their votes counted!

In 2023, I made a step-by-step video explaining the process that is still available via Facebook.

The Official Website of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has this to say about mail-in and absentee ballots:

“Deadlines for Pennsylvania’s May 20, 2025, Primary Election:

5 p.m. May 13: Your APPLICATION for a mail-in or absentee ballot must be received by your county election office.

8 p.m. May 20: Your county election office must RECEIVE your completed mail ballot by this time. A postmark by 8 p.m. May 20 is not sufficient.

Reminder: Voting in a primary election for party nominees is limited to only voters registered as Democratic or Republican. However, all registered voters can vote in a primary election if the ballot includes any of the following in addition to party nominees:

-a constitutional amendment question,
-a ballot question, or
-a special election in their district.

Contact your county board of elections for ballot information: vote.pa.gov/County“

Missed the deadline to apply for your mail ballot? If you have an emergency–such as an unexpected illness or disability or last-minute absence from your municipality–you may still be able to obtain a mail ballot after the May 13 deadline: Emergency ballot information

Remember: Before you apply, be sure to check your voter registration status to ensure you are registered to vote and your information is up to date! vote.pa.gov/Status
